Stressed and Blessed

Listen… Life isn’t always easy.  There is no guarantee that if you take specific steps this life is going to be perfect.  Even if you do everything exactly the way you’re supposed to do it, life is still hard.  There will be bad times, there is no way around it.  You have to understand that even in the face of those things that have you stressed, you have to be able to look up and see the things that have you blessed.  You have to learn how to be stressed and blessed. Blessed while being stressed. They go together, but a lot of it is how you look at it.

I can be stressed out because I have a busted pipe in my house, or I can be blessed because I have a house.  Right? I can be stressed because I paid a lot of money on home repairs or I can be blessed because I have a home that can be repaired and that I can afford the repairs on. We must understand that it’s all a mindset. I can be uncomfortable and happy at the same time. In fact, I tell people that’s where we need to be, because when we are uncomfortable we are probably doing something that will make us very comfortable and happier later.   I repeat, If you are doing the uncomfortable stuff now you are going to be happy later.

 In the midst of my discomfort while I’m jogging;  while I’m working;  while I’m reading instead of watching TV, I’m setting up my own happiness. During a jog for example, I’m happy because I have legs that can move. I’ve been to war two times and not everyone came back with two legs.  During reading instead of watching TV, I realize that I am part of the literate percentage of the world.  So I’m happy even while doing the uncomfortable things because I have the ability to do it. You have to be discontent and satisfied. Discontent because I don’t have everything I want, but I’m satisfied because I have everything I need.  You understand?

They say in the Army: Three Hots and a Cot. Basically meaning, you eat breakfast, lunch, dinner and you have a place to stay.  I have to be satisfied with it but, at the same time I have to be discontent so I work to get more than just that.  So, I’m good but I want better. I’m thankful for the good and that’s the attitude of gratitude that I talk about.  Recognize your blessings as you move through life doing the uncomfortable things that will benefit you in the long run.
